Careers at Yiangou Architects

The team enjoying a CPD trip to learn about lime plaster

As a member of our Architectural team, you will get the opportunity to work with other talented designers on some of the finest residential schemes in the country. Whether working on traditional or contemporary building designs, we are passionate about quality, detail and craftsmanship.

Our studio environment welcomes collaboration and healthy debate about work at all stages. We take a high proportion of our projects from initial sketch design all the way through to completion, so you will have the opportunity to see your work realised.

Just ninety minutes from London, our offices are located in the centre of Cirencester, the historic capital of the Cotswolds. Many people choose to relocate to this vibrant market town or to the surrounding villages and countryside when they join us. Others opt to commute from around the region (Cheltenham, Gloucester, Oxford, Wiltshire, Bristol, Bath and Herefordshire).

Success is, of course, to be shared. We offer competitive rates of pay and additional benefits including a generous profit-share scheme. There is a structured progression process which provides opportunities for long term advancement.

Our stable team, with a third of our employees having worked for the Practice for more than ten years, is testament to the quality of life at Yiangou Architects.

We take the development of student talent very seriously, and look to get new recruits engaged and productive on projects as soon as they arrive. Many students come back several times during their education, working with us during holidays as well as during their placement years.

The Practice prides itself on its management style and professionalism, with a strong administrative team available to support the architectural staff. We have dedicated HR, Finance and IT resources within the office.

We maintain a non-discriminatory recruitment process and welcome applications from all eligible candidates.

What to Expect

Interviewing as an Assistant

For everyone's convenience, we typically undertake initial interviews over Teams. These sessions are quite informal, and your interviewers will be looking to get a feeling for your design abilities and where your skills might be suited within the office. Please be ready to share your screen with examples that we can discuss (hand drawings too!). This is an important time to bring up anything that might be a show-stopper for you, for instance travel/accommodation or visa requirements.

If your initial interview goes well, we will invite you to Cirencester for a formal portfolio review.

A formal interview will usually be undertaken by two-or-three Directors/Associates and our Practice Manager. A panel of this size might sound a little intimidating, but the mood is always friendly and supportive. We will ask you to skim through your portfolio and to run through your favourite project in more depth. We will give you a tour of the office and answer any questions that you have.

We always aim to keep candidates informed, so we will be back in touch a few days after your interview to let you know if you've been successful.
